She pursued her medical education at Harvard Medical School, obtaining her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 1954. Subsequently, she underwent postgraduate training, including an internship at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, and residency and chief residency in Cardiology at the same institution. In 1958, she became a Senior Assistant Resident at Grady Memorial Hospital, Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA, and later a Fellow in Cardiology at Emory.
