Hieromonk Maxim (Iuliu-Marius Morariu), born on May 4, 1991, in Salva, Romania, is a distinguished Romanian Orthodox priest, scholar, and editor. A class valedictorian from seminary to doctoral studies, he serves as a hieromonk and protosyncell, combining his ecclesiastical vocation with a prolific academic and editorial career. Currently the Exarch of Monasteries in the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada and an Associate Member of the Romanian Academy of Scientists, he is widely recognized for his contributions to theology, history, and interdisciplinary research.

Fr. Maxim holds two PhDs: one in Orthodox Theology (2019, “BabeČ-Bolyai” University, summa cum laude) and another in Social Sciences (2021, Angelicum Pontifical University, summa cum laude). He earned four MAsâin Theology, Social Sciences, and Southeastern European Historyâwith magna or summa cum laude honors, alongside dual BAs in Theology and History. He also completed postdoctoral research at Accademia di Romania in Rome (2021) and the Centre for Ecumenical Studies, Sibiu (2020), and holds a CCES from the Bossey Ecumenical Institute, Geneva.

Hieromonk Maxim has served in the Romanian Orthodox Church since 2014, with increasing responsibilities including ecclesiarch of Saint George Cathedral (Quebec) and spiritual father of multiple monasteries. He is a producer and editor for Radio RenaČterea and a contributor to Doxologia.ro. He also works as a researcher and scientific secretary at the âIoan LupaČâ Centre, Faculty of Orthodox Theology, “BabeČ-Bolyai” University.
